With October coming to an end and November on the horizon, I wanted to share my writing goal for the coming month. In Italy I started a new science fiction adventure series. From my transitioning back to the States I never got past the first 15,000 words. Knowing this my November writing will be focused on this book and on getting a solid first draft done before the holidays. I'll let you know how things go in the weeks ahead.
If you had asked me this question a few months ago, I would have said dogs without a second thought. Fast forward to the present and I have to ponder as to whether I really have a preference.
To the orange cats that wait patiently for my car to arrive home so that they might run up to greet me and then rub themselves on my legs and purr for minutes on end, they might tell you I favor them. Heck, I even let one of these barn cats in my apartment yesterday simply for a snuggling session.
But don’t get me wrong, I love dogs. Pugs and golden retrievers are my breeds of choice. I appreciate their unconditional love and devoutness compared to the “user mentality” of most cats I have met.
While this is true, more recently, I was attacked by a pit-bull while out for an early morning run. The lingering scar on the middle of my chest from the dog’s teeth has made me skittish among man’s best friend. Then yesterday I was walking on a lake side trail when three unleashed dogs came out of nowhere. Still recovering from my chest wound, I cowered behind a tree, only to be pushed back by the incessant barking and approach of a Doberman and a black lab. The next thing I knew I was falling back down the embankment and then into the waters of Manning Lake.
As I limp around my apartment this morning with a banged up leg and another thrashing to my ego, I think for right now cats have a slight edge. What do you think?
